Why Kings Palace? And what landmark next?

I assume "Why Kings Palace" because of going for an agression build, you could go for the TC landmark.

What do you meen with 'barracks upgrades (ranged attack > defense > melee > siege)'? Do you mean blacksmith upgrades? What about defence? You mean both (ranged and melee) and order does not matter?
